The following article, Kamala Shape-Shifts on a Critical Policy and it Spells Doom, was first published on The Black Sphere.
Recently, I started my daily browsing of headlines when this one caught my attention: “Kamala Harris’ stance on marijuana has certainly evolved. Here’s what to know.”
What to know? Harris is a contortionist when it comes to her policy positions. And there is one issue that will be the Achille’s heel for Harris and Democrats, and it’s one they will not overcome.
Admittedly, I don’t know much about Harris directly. I find it difficult to take her seriously. An incompetent clown who disgraced herself, women, Indians, and Blacks for her despicable behavior. All for sake of power and prestige.
I know that Harris was a pitiful Attorney General. But she was a worse Senator. I watched as she grilled Judge Kavanaugh, rejoicing in the emotional pain she inflicted on him, his reputation, and his family.
Besides her mistreatment of Kavanaugh, Harris directed her blood-lust towards Blacks.
There was the whole “I DID inhale” incident where she threw shade at Bill Clinton for smoking week, then simultaneously admitted to smoking weed herself.
Also, the tough on crime zealot prosecutor is well-known for prosecuting parents when their kids skipped school. However, “tough on crime” reads like a Republican. So Harris down-played her record during the 2020 election, and she started back-tracking on her marijuana stance as well.
According to the article referenced:
As vice president, she championed the Biden administration offering pardons for Americans convicted of federal marijuana possession and the landmark changes reclassifying marijuana as a less dangerous and addictive drug. There’s even a strain of weed, Kamala Kush, named after her, which Jimmy Kimmel joked about during an interview with Harris last month.
The California Democrat has advocated for decriminalizing marijuana but she wasn’t always so lenient. Harris has been criticized for aggressively prosecuting weed-related crimes when she was California’s attorney general and San Francisco’s district attorney, particularly given the the racial disparities in punishment nationwide. Data shows that African Americans are more likely than whites to be arrested for pot. Harris’ loosening opposition to marijuana appears to have begun when she was in the U.S. Senate, in the lead-up to her 2020 presidential bid. And experts say her evolution could continue if she becomes the Democratic candidate and wins the election.
“During her time in the White House, the vice president has been an even stronger advocate for [ending] any cannabis prohibition and restoring or repairing the harms that it has caused than the president has been, and in many ways, has been a real leader on this issue, particularly as it relates to criminal justice reform,” Morgan Fox, political director of NORML, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, the country’s oldest cannabis legalization advocacy group, told USA TODAY.
Harris called for changes to federal rules on marijuana
In 2022, Biden directed the Department of Health and Human Services to review how marijuana is classified and subsequently recommended it be reclassified as a less dangerous drug. In March, Harris called on HHS and the Justice Department to speed up reclassification during a discussion with rapper Fat Joe and others who had been pardoned for weed convictions.
Marijuana is not the issue here. The real issue involves Harris’ ability to shape-shift on her stances and refuse to look back.
You see, if Harris apologized to all the people she put in prison for marijuana use, she might be forgiven. But she won’t admit to that. Ironically, Kamala’s new stance would be to pardon the same guys she sent to prison. Hypocritically, she wants them freed with the idea that she did them a favor. “Hey, what’s 10 years in prison for non-violent marijuana use between friends?!” Kamala would cackle to the people she pardoned.
Of any of Harris’ past issues, the marijuana issues cries the loudest. Generally it’s sanctimonious Republicans fighting to put Blacks in prison and keep them there. But this time, it’s Harris’ past that haunts her and Democrats. Think of this as Harris’ equivalent of Hillary Clinton’s “super-predators” comment.
If Republicans are smart, they will target Black Democrats with this message and put it with Clinton’s super-predator comments. Tie those two together.
This issue partnered with Harris’ lack of true “Blackness” will win the day.
