The following article, Leftist Insanity: Breaking Hearts and Families Over Nonsense, was first published on The Black Sphere.

Bill Maher recently pointed out the absurdity of modern Leftism, using the Netflix show Love is Blind as a prime example.

For those unfamiliar, the show features couples who get engaged without ever seeing each other, testing the theory that love transcends physical appearance. Yet, as Maher highlighted, even love isn’t blind enough to overlook Leftist orthodoxy.

In a particularly telling moment, a bride named Sarah dumped her fiancé, Ben, at the altar—not because of infidelity or financial troubles, but because he wasn’t politically aligned with her views. Ben wasn’t some MAGA-hat-wearing Trump devotee; he just wasn’t all-in on Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ causes. For Sarah, that was enough to call the whole thing off in dramatic, reality-TV fashion.

Maher, never shy about criticizing his own side, pointed out that this level of ideological rigidity is part of why Democrats are bleeding support among non-white working-class voters, Hispanic men, and even the youth. Simply put, the Left has become insufferable—and not just at the ballot box. They’re insufferable at the dinner table, at family gatherings, and, apparently, even at the altar.

Leftist Insanity: It’s Not New

The idea that Leftists are willing to burn bridges over politics isn’t new. Remember Obama? His election was like a seismic rift in American families. Liberals didn’t just vote for him; they wore it like a badge of moral superiority. Friendships dissolved. Thanksgiving dinners became battlegrounds. Families were torn apart not by any real grievance but by ideological purity tests. If you didn’t vote for Obama, you were an outcast—a heretic in their progressive church.

The irony? Obama’s tenure didn’t exactly bring unity or prosperity. America sank further into debt, racial tensions grew, and foreign policy floundered. But did any of that matter? Not to the zealots who draped themselves in Obama’s image like he was the second coming. Their devotion wasn’t rooted in results; it was rooted in ritual.

Trump: The Ultimate Leftist Litmus Test

If Obama’s era strained relationships, Trump’s ascendency shattered them. Mentioning his name was like lighting a fuse in any Leftist circle. A casual “I voted for Trump” was enough to get you excommunicated from social gatherings, family dinners, and even work events. It didn’t matter if you had legitimate reasons—economic policies, border security, tax cuts. None of that mattered. You were branded with the scarlet letter “T,” and there was no coming back.

Leftists didn’t just disagree; they disowned. Families that had been close for decades split like cheap plywood. It wasn’t enough to dislike Trump; you had to hate him—and if you didn’t, you were seen as complicit in everything wrong with America. The Left demanded allegiance, and any deviation meant social banishment.

The Vax: Leftist Gestapo Tactics

And then came the vaccine. If you thought Leftist hysteria peaked with Obama or Trump, the COVID vaccine was their final form. Suddenly, the same people who screamed “My body, my choice!” when it came to abortion were lining up to demand forced vaccinations, lockdowns, and mask mandates. Soccer moms turned into health Nazis overnight. Maher noted this shift, and he’s not wrong.

The vaccine was more than a medical intervention; it became a symbol of political allegiance. You either complied, or you were a heretic. Friendships shattered. Neighbors turned on each other. And Leftists basked in their newfound authority, happy to call the shots—literally.

Love, Actually…Is Political?

Which brings us back to Love is Blind and the poor sap named Ben. This guy made it to the altar, ready to commit his life to Sarah, only to be blindsided—not by some hidden truth or secret affair—but because he wasn’t “woke” enough. Think about that. In a world where finding a good partner is like winning the lottery, she tossed him aside like expired milk because he wasn’t politically indoctrinated to her standards.

Is this where we are now? Ideology over intimacy? Dogma over devotion? It’s not just tragic; it’s insane.

When the Insanity Ends

Maher’s larger point was that this level of ideological insanity is why the Democrats are losing ground. People are waking up to the fact that when ideology trumps even love, something is fundamentally broken. And as long as the Left insists on rigid purity tests, their pool of true believers is only going to shrink.

For Ben, this was a blessing in disguise. If you can’t pass a political litmus test just to say “I do,” imagine the nightmare of actually being married to it.

But for the rest of us, Maher’s point should be a wake-up call. When politics infects love, family, and friendship, maybe it’s time to check the sanity of the ideology—not the people who reject it.
