Cue President Trump, delivering peace, plummeting crime rates, and—most baffling of all—insanity among MSNBC hosts and Biden-era FBI stats. Let’s navigate this labyrinth of statistical sleight-of-hand and political performance.

The Crime Arc: History, Stats, and Tall Tales

Once upon a grittier time, Washington, D.C. was America’s undisputed Murder Capital. In 1991, homicides hit a terrifying high—509 lives lost in a single year—prompting grim national headlines. That horror show played out amid the crack epidemic, ravaging communities east of the Anacostia and melting the city’s social fabric.

But the 1990s also sparked turnaround. Economic revival, policing reforms, and urban investment help turned the tide. By 2012, the homicide count had shrunk to just 88—the lowest level since the Kennedy era. Violent and property crimes plunged—violent offenses fell more than 60% from 1995 to 2018; property crimes dropped roughly 54%. D.C. was on the rebound.

Then came the off-ramp. Homicides ticked back up—160 in 2018, rising to a two-decade high of 274 in 2023. D.C. had gone from recovery to relapse, and residents—and political hawks—felt it. Prosecutors weren’t even charging half the arrests that year (nearly 70% went unprosecuted), a figure far higher than in the prior decade.

That tragic spike sparked political panic. The U.S. Attorney’s office was accused of not prosecuting nearly 70% of arrests in 2022—something that dropped to 56% by October 2023. Still, that’s nearly double the prosecutorial leniency compared to 2013. In February 2024, the D.C. Council passed a crime bill designed to crank up penalties and forced local resolve.

Cue the crackdown: 2024 was D.C.’s comeback year. Homicides plunged by about 32%, robberies by 39%, armed carjackings by over 50%, assaults with weapons by 27%, and violent crime overall dropped 35%—landing at the lowest level in over 30 years. That’s if we can believe the Biden-era stats.

Regardless, here’s the arc in bold strokes:

  1. Peak chaos in the early ’90s—D.C. dominated headlines as a lethal outlier.

  2. Mid-’90s to early 2010s—steady declines brought sanity back to the streets.

  3. 2023 spike—a sobering reminder that gains can unravel if law enforcement and prosecution falter.

  4. 2024 turnaround?—focused enforcement, prosecutions, and strategy paid off—crime dropped dramatically, but only after it rang the alarm bell. Just in time for election season.

Ironically, this comeback reinforces the narrative: “Crime is falling—but only because Trump is calling attention to it.” The hypocrisy is bathed in irony—Trumps shouts, Left resists, and the streets actually get safer. It’s not a fairy tale—it’s a textbook arc where more enforcement can—and does—matter.

Theatrics vs. Data

Even if crime is down in DC, it’s still high. And that’s why President Trump decided to act. And like clockwork, cue the Left’s meltdown.

MSNBC’s own Jonathan Capehart and Eugene Daniels insisted crime is down, everywhere, in every category in D.C. That’s not denial; that’s performance art.

President Trump doubles down. He calls D.C. “totally out of control”. Now he pushes for federal takeover, deploying agents from multiple agencies, and promising to make D.C. one of the world’s safest cities.

Democrats love to trot out their favorite moral platitude — “If we can save just one life…” — whenever it suits them politically. Usually, it’s in the context of restricting your freedoms, raising your taxes, or dismantling your way of life. But when the opportunity arises to save many lives, when the data screams that decisive action could prevent hundreds of murders, carjackings, and violent assaults in Washington, D.C., they suddenly squawk like wounded animals cornered in an alley.

Why? Because it’s Donald J. Trump leading the charge. That’s it. That’s the disqualifier in their deranged worldview. If Trump found the cure for cancer tomorrow, Democrats would campaign on the health benefits of tumors.

Let’s strip the varnish off this hypocrisy. The safety of American citizens should be a 100/0 issue.

Every rational adult agrees that people shouldn’t be stabbed at bus stops, carjacked at traffic lights, or shot in broad daylight. Yet, for the Left, public safety magically morphs into a partisan issue the moment Trump puts his fingerprints on the plan. Suddenly, “law enforcement” becomes “Gestapo tactics,” and violent criminals transform into misunderstood victims of society in need of taxpayer-funded therapy and free housing.

And these are the same people who embraced “defund the police” with the zeal of a cult. They kneecap local departments, slash patrol budgets, and gut proactive policing measures — all in the name of “justice reform”. Then, they feign surprise when the streets devolve into a real-life episode of The Purge. When lawlessness is policy, law-abiding citizens become prey.

Democrat politicians–virtue-signaling publicity seekers–hopped on planes to rescue foreign nationals who have already committed violent crimes in their own countries and in America. That’s not compassion — that’s willful betrayal of the people they were elected to protect. They bend over backward to shield the guilty while the innocent pay the price in blood, trauma, and fear.

So what’s next for this political party?

Will they sponsor a “Second Chances for Serial Killers” program? Hand out Uber gift cards to gang members so they don’t have to walk to their next crime scene? At this point, the only consistency in their platform is their unwavering commitment to making the streets less safe, so long as it keeps their Trump-hate narrative alive.

This level of political self-sabotage is precisely why their dogma is wearing thin across America. You don’t have to be a political scientist to see it — just look at the growing exodus from the Democratic Party. When lifelong blue voters in urban strongholds start muttering, “Maybe Trump has a point,” you know the narrative is cracking.

And make no mistake, President Trump is resolute. His record speaks for itself: peace agreements abroad that baffled career diplomats, and policies at home that brought crime rates to lows not seen in decades. He’s not just about “Making America Great Again”, he’s about Making America Safe Again — a cause the Left has inexplicably decided to oppose.

The irony is that safety, like freedom, doesn’t care about your political affiliation. When your kid’s school is in a lockdown drill, when your elderly neighbor is mugged, when your car is stolen at gunpoint — you stop caring about hashtags and slogans. You start caring about results. And results are what Trump is offering.

So let the Democrats cry “authoritarian” as they trip over their own contradictions. The rest of America is watching, and they know exactly who’s on the side of safety and who’s on the side of chaos. And in the end, that’s not just a winning political strategy — it’s a moral one.
