Litany of Leftism – Ep 26-329

Let’s start today with something that used to be considered a rather unremarkable idea:

A country gets to decide who comes into its country.

Crazy, right?

Apparently, that concept has become controversial in the West.

Europe is wrestling with illegal immigration, and Poland has taken an increasingly hard line on its border with Belarus. Polish soldiers and border guards have fired shots during illegal crossings, including warning shots, and a Polish soldier who fired toward migrants was acquitted earlier this year. Poland is also pushing for tougher consequences for people who enter illegally. (Notes From Poland)

Now, let’s put this into terms that even the folks at MSNBC ought to understand.

Imagine you come home tonight, open your front door, and discover somebody you don’t know sitting in your living room.

You didn’t invite him.

You didn’t give him a key.

He didn’t knock.

He just came in.

What do you do?

You call the police.

And if that person poses an immediate threat, you defend yourself.

Yet somehow, when we’re talking about a national border, we’re told that enforcing the boundary is cruel, racist, xenophobic, or whatever word happens to be trending on the Left that week.

And there is another dimension to this conversation that we need to have carefully and honestly: Islamist extremism and national security. Muslims are not a monolith, and being Muslim does not make someone a threat. But governments absolutely have a responsibility to know who is entering their countries, why they’re entering, and whether anyone among them presents a security risk.

That’s not bigotry.
